AYUSH PHD SCHEME
(CCRAS PHD SCHEME)
The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, oversees five autonomous Research Councils that collectively constitute the country’s principal scientific establishments in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (Ayush systems). These Councils—CCRAS, CCRYN, CCRUM, CCRS, and CCRH—conduct extensive research spanning fundamental studies, clinical evaluation, drug standardization, literary scholarship, and collaborative programmes through a network of 97 institutes across India. As Ayush systems gain growing clinical relevance and are increasingly considered viable alternatives or complements to modern medicine,
The Government has intensified efforts to promote outcome-oriented research. Availability of competent research manpower is a critical prerequisite for this national objective. In this context, the Ministry of Ayush has envisaged the Ayush Ph.D.
Fellowship Scheme to support meritorious scholars pursuing doctoral research in Ayush disciplines and allied life sciences. This scheme enables bright candidates to undertake research under expert supervision in recognized universities, national laboratories, and Council institutes, thereby strengthening the quality and depth of scientific inquiry within Ayush. By institutionalizing a structured fellowship framework, the scheme aims to cultivate a merit-driven research workforce and facilitate high-quality doctoral training aligned with national priorities in traditional medicine and biomedical sciences.
